Sync iCal with Google Calendar

There are a few different software applications for Mac that will let you do 2 Way Syncing between iCal and Google Calendar but I haven’t road tested anything so far which is as easy as BusySync. BusySync installs as a preference pane on your Mac that allows you to insert your Google account details and then use your Google calendars as real iCal calendars (rather than just subscribing to Google’s private calendar feed).

The software isn’t free but at $25 USD, it’s not too badly priced for the convinence it offers. If you’re keen to have a play with it, there’s a 30 day demo available on BusyMac’s site.

If you’re not one for shelling out for commercial software, there is also an open source project which may be of interest. GCalDaemon has a very strong unix/linux bent to it but essentially seems to offer the same thing as BusySync. I however couldn’t get it up and going in the 5 minutes had to spend on this, which might be because I’m using Leopard or it could well be something else. If you keen to give it a try check out GCalDaemon’s site on Sourceforge. I’ve included a graphic from their site below giving you an idea of how they say it all works.

*** For Windows users, check out Life Hacker’s guide to  Google’s webDAV service for Google calendar. Basically, everything above for free, very simple to setup and works great. Unfortunately, their service for Apple iCal is only 1 Way which isn’t that useful..!
